Jamaica Beach in Sirmione: what to know before you go
Jamaica Beach is the famous flat-rock beach at the tip of Sirmione, near the Grottoes of Catullus. The water is shallow and clear for a good stretch, but the rocks are covered in algae and very slippery: according to visitors, water shoes are almost essential.

What the water is like
The water stays shallow for a long stretch, then drops off quickly. It is clear, with fish and some snorkelling. Visitors find it cleaner in the morning than in the late afternoon. The depth varies with the lake level.
Getting there and hours
There are two ways in. From the Grottoes of Catullus there is a gate just before the ruins entrance and a steep dirt path down through the olive grove to the beach and the bar: this is the “dry” route, and here you do not need water shoes. Alternatively you arrive from the Spiaggia delle Bionde side, along the shore: you walk over the flat rocks with your feet in the water, and here water shoes really do help. The walk down is not ideal for those with mobility issues or a stroller. Visitors report that the gate closes around 20:00: better not to linger.
