Sirmione in a day: the practical plan

Got a few hours in Sirmione, maybe with luggage before check-in or after check-out? The plan is simple: park outside the ZTL, drop your bags, walk in or take the shuttle, and pick the right time to avoid the crowds.

Updated on 16 June 2026.

1. Park outside the ZTL

The old town is a ZTL: as a day visitor you cannot drive in. Leave the car in a public car park outside the walls and check the free spaces in real time before you set off.

2. Drop your luggage

If you arrive early or leave late, the Infopoint has luggage storage (from €5). As an alternative, partner points in town with wider hours.

3. Get into the old town

However you arrive, you enter the old town on foot, across the bridge by the castle: it is the only way in (unless you stay at a hotel inside the ZTL, or arrive by boat). So the real choice is where you park: at the lots by the gate, like Monte Baldo, you walk in within minutes; if they are full, park at Colombare and take the shuttle to the gate (every 15–20 minutes), or take the lakeside walk: many walk from Colombare to the centre, about half an hour.

4. Pick the right time

The centre has a single entrance, the bridge by the castle, and in summer it queues (experimental barriers were added in 2026 to manage the flow); midday is also the hottest and most crowded. Come early or in the late afternoon, and check how crowded it is now and over the coming days.
