Free parking in Sirmione: where it actually exists (and when)
In high season (1–7 Jan, 1 Mar–1 Nov, 24–31 Dec) and on Sundays and public holidays there is no free public parking near Sirmione’s centre. The only real free parking is on low-season weekdays, at the Tancredi and S.Vito lots, and in the white-line areas of Colombare and Lugana, well away from the centre.

The free parking map
Found free parking? Report it on the map and help whoever comes after you. Reports are visitor contributions, unverified, and appear after a check.

Where it’s actually free (and when)
Only two public lots become free, and only on low-season weekdays (Mon–Sat non-holiday, 8 Jan–28 Feb and 2 Nov–23 Dec): Tancredi (127 spaces) and S.Vito (48 spaces). Throughout high season and on holidays they are paid like the other lots. In those periods free parking exists only away from the centre: the white lines towards Colombare and Lugana, and the metered streets (such as Via Salvo D’Acquisto), paid only from 1 March to 1 November and so free in winter. At weekends they fill up early (visitor reports), so it is best to leave the car there and take the shuttle from Colombare. Note: in Rivoltella (Desenzano) several once-free areas have been paid since 2022. Arrive before 10 and check the free spaces right now before you set off.

Why there’s none near the centre
The line colour follows the Highway Code regulation (art. 149). Where a parking disc is required, display your arrival time clearly (art. 157). One detail explains why free parking is missing near the castle: the law (Highway Code, art. 7 §8) requires the town to set aside, next to the paid areas, an adequate parking area without time-control devices, but the same clause exempts limited-traffic zones, pedestrian areas and historic centres. Sirmione’s centre is a ZTL: there, free parking may lawfully not exist.

Motorhomes and disabled drivers
A motorhome follows the same rules as any other vehicle (art. 185): parking is not camping as long as you stay within the vehicle’s footprint, but in paid car parks the tariff is increased by 50%. The areas listed by the official tourist board (such as Piazzale John Lennon in Colombare) are paid, with a meter, in season; under the municipal act, though, the motorhome area next to Piazzale John Lennon is free on low-season weekdays, the same windows as the car parks.
For disabled drivers there are reserved bays at Piazzale Porto and in Piazza Porto Valentino; with a CUDE badge, parking in paid areas is free by law (art. 188 §3-bis), the reserved bays aside.
Frequently asked questions
- Is parking free in the evening or at night?
- No. The official lots have no free night band: parking is charged from 07:00 to midnight, and Monte Baldo is open and paid 24 hours a day.
- Are white lines always free?
- Yes, unless the signs on the spot say otherwise. In Sirmione, though, the free white-line areas are far from the centre, towards Colombare and Lugana.
- Where can I park a motorhome for free?
- In season, nowhere: a motorhome follows the same rules as other vehicles (art. 185) and pays an increased tariff in paid car parks. On winter weekdays, though, the motorhome area at Piazzale John Lennon is free (municipal act).
- Do disabled drivers park for free?
- Yes: with a CUDE badge, parking is free even on blue lines (art. 188 §3-bis), on top of the reserved bays at Piazzale Porto and in Piazza Porto Valentino.
